African tax Think Tank to launch ICT tax systems and informal sector taxation products

The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), a think tank that discusses tax matters in Africa will on June 24, 2021 launch the ATAF ICT Tax Systems and Informal Sector Taxation (IST) products.

The products include Guidebooks, Checklist, and Compilations of Good Practices. The launch will take place via Zoom Video Conferencing. The main objective of the event is to introduce these seminal products, with the aim of guiding and implementing reforms in the two sectors.

The webinar will take place in all three ATAF languages (English, French and Portuguese) with simultaneous interpretation.

The ICT and IST products contribute to the various tools and programmes that ATAF uses to achieve its strategic objectives. They include the ICT Guidebook which provides an innovative framework highlighting activities, stakeholders and key performance indicators required to efficiently acquire, implement, and maintain integrated revenue administration systems in Africa.

They also include a tool to assess the state of ICT systems maturity in revenue administrations (RAs). Finally, the Compilation of ICT good practices highlights the existing efforts across RAs in automation drives including success stories and lessons learned, to act as a benchmark to other agencies who desire to carry out similar initiatives.
On the other hand, the products geared towards improving informal sector taxation in Africa include the Guidebook which proposes a taxation model aimed at efficiently taxing the sector, suggests steps to administer the model, and presents a monitoring and evaluation tool aimed at gauging the success of its ensuing fiscal management.

The Good Practice Booklet showcases countries that have advanced in the taxation of the informal sector and its management and allows for benchmarking and peer-leaning across Africa.
