EPRC researcher emerges top in exchange rate forecasting

For the fifth year running, Makerere University’s Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) head of the Macroeconomic department, Paul Lakuma has again led the pack in providing the most accurate exchange rate forecasting in 2020 in Uganda.

The rankings, by FocusEconomics, recognise the world’s leading economists, “who, despite the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, continued to produce and update reliable economic forecasts.”

FocusEconomics is an analytics firm that provides economic analysis and forecasts for 131 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Lakuma’s recognition highlights the Centre’s grounding in economic indicators and research.

EPRC young researchers have received a grant from the United Nations agency Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) under Close the Agricultural Data Initiative to push towards achieving SDG 2 (zero hunger) in Uganda.

The researchers are expected to conduct innovative research using datasets from the FAO-supported Agricultural Integrated Survey (AGRISurvey) or the Living Standards Measurement Study-Integrated Surveys on Agriculture (LSMS-ISA).

The awardees are research associates Dablin Mpuuga and Ambrose Ogwanga and Young Professional Enock Nsubuuga Will Bulime
