Jacob Oulanyah hands over office of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament

Omoro County MP-elect Jacob Oulanyah has handed over his official car and office of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

He was re-elected as Deputy Speaker of Parliament on 19 May 2016. In the vote, conducted by secret ballot, he received 300 votes, while Mohammed Nsereko received 115.

“I have handed over gov’t things that I got by virtue of the Office of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Today is my last day as an MP per article 77:3 of the constitution and per article 82:7(d), I cease being Deputy Speaker of Parliament. It has been a great experience, one of many lessons and growth. An absolute honor to have served,” he said at Parliament

Oulanyah who is yet to take oath as Omoro County MP expressed interest to stand for the office of the speaker of parliament.

He will be competing against Kamuli woman MP Rebeca Kadaga who is seeking her term as the speaker of parliament. The two have been at loggerheads after Oulanyah expressed interest in the office of the speaker.

In 2016, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) asked Oulanyah to step down for Kadaga noting it is her last term. He has barely chaired 120 sessions since he was elected deputy speaker of parliament.
