Kadaga meets parents of Riots Victim, promises to get Justice.

Ms Hajara Nakitto and Meddie Semugenyi, parents of one Amos Ssegawa, a 15 year old, senior two student of Lubiri High School (Buloba Campus) have today met with the Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga over the failure of Police to deliver justice for the death of their son.

Earlier this week, Nakitto had stormed the parliament grounds armed with placards and chanting slogans of retribution as she demanded to meet with the Speaker of Parliament. She claimed that she had failed to get help from police forcing her to seek help elsewhere.

Ms Hajara Nakitto today at Parliament

“My son was shot dead as I walked with him home on the second day of the protests. I have not ever received justice because police failed to help me. I have spent everything I had to try and get justice. I’ll sit at parliament until I see the speaker.” she told journalists.

Hon.Kadaga who met with the couple earlier today has promised to help them get justice. The Speaker also directed the Police to publically reveal the officers responsible for the death of Ssegawa.

“Its been a sad mid-morning as I listened to a harrowing account from Hajara Nakitto and Husband Meddie Semugenyi about how police shot dead their 15 year old son, in kampala on 19th November 2020, later forced them to exhume the body for post-mortem. The couple footed re-burial expenses.”-Hon Rebecca Kadaga.

Ssegawa is one of 54 victims who were killed in the election riots that took place in Kampala on 19th November 2020 after the arrest of opposition leader Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi. The bullet that ended Ssegawa’s life entered through his mouth and exited out the right side of his neck, desperate attempts to save the boy’s life were futile and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Hospital (Doctor’s Clinic).
