Kadaga rants as CEC endorses Oulanyah for speaker of parliament

The former speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga has said that she will run as an independent candidates in the speakership race slated to take place at Kololo independence grounds.

“Fellow Ugandans, I have come to inform the people of Uganda that my party has opted not to give me the party flag for Speaker of Parliament. I have therefore decided to run as an independent” Kadaga said at hotel Africans

Yesterday, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling Party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) endorsed Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah as it’s candidate in the speakership elections happening today.

According to the Secretary General of NRM, Justine Kasule Lumumba, it was time for Kadaga to step down for another person to represent the party.

“Our Party deliberate that one not serve more than two terms for both the office of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of parliament.”Lumumba said

The race is between Rebecca Kadaga and her deputy Jacob Oulanyah. Others contesting for the office of the speaker of parliament include; Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Semujju Nganda and Richard Sebamala.

Mps vying for the office of deputy speaker include; Gomba West MP Robina Rwakoojo, West Budama North MP Jacob Oboth-Oboth, Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa, Theodore Ssekikubo, the Lwemiyaga County MP and State Minister for Finance David Bahati.
