Ministry of Health to convene emergency meeting over shooting Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health is convening an emergency meeting with permanent secretaries of different Ministries to form a new Covid-19 taskforce as cases continue surging. The meeting is due in the office of the president Conference Hall

The development came after the death of six young people over Covid-19 in one week. This called for the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to allow different Permanent Secretaries to temporarily take over roles of Ministers over Covid-19.

Dr Diana Kanzira Atwine the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health has since called an Emergency meeting of National Task Force that is slated to take place today at the President Auditorium conference Hall.

Dr Atwine on Wednesday warned that with the rising Covid-19 cases, some areas need to be urgently locked down if the Covid-19 second wave is to be contained.

“It cannot be ruled out because for us life comes first, if the public has refused to take the measures in place, I think a lockdown is a way to go, some areas must be locked down unless people really get to observing SOPs otherwise we shall get overwhelmed,” said Dr Atwine.

Dr Richard Kabanda, Commissioner Public Health says they might be forced to advise Government over Geographical lockdowns starting with Kampala and Wakiso.
