Prince Philip passes on at 99.

The Duke of Edinburgh and husband to the Queen of England, Prince Phillip has passed away this morning at Windsor Castle at the age of 99. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II announced the in a statement that was released today at Buckingham Palace.

‘It is with deep sorrow that her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course.’

The death of Prince Philip follows his recovery from a heart surgery where he spent 28 days in hospital until he moved to Windsor Castle beside his wife, where he spent the rest of his days. Sources close to the Monarchy have described him as witty, controversial and a source of the Queen’s strength and support.

A silent figure by his wife’s side, Prince Philip was the only monarch to have been wedded the longest to the throne.
